Near
Death Experiences happen to people who are clinically dead and successfully
resuscitated. Some people will say that neardeath is not dead enough, but
when a person is clinically dead it means that there is NO heart beat, NO
breathing, NO brain stem reflexes and
the pupils are dilated and fixed. While the state of clinical death is
reversible for a short period of time, a
person experiencing these signs is dead during this state.
So, if you truly want to know about death – asking someone who
has been dead and actually knows what happens – makes a lot of sense. That's what I have done..
My name is Rene Jorgensen and I am a philosopher of
religion who studies Near Death Experiences. I have done so since March of 2000
when I had my own Near Death Experience. I am a member of the International
Association for Near Death Studies, where I am both a contributor and consulting
editor of the Journal of Near Death Studies.
I am also the author of two
